50 Posts and One Semester Later ........
Its been a different journey this, blogging I mean. Its not exactly the kind of writing I ever envisaged I would be doing. Sure, I used to write a lot. Serious articles, the contemplative ones and the few philosophical ones. I havent had a preference for any one style though being just content to write. If I had to trace the roots of this love for writing it has to go back to the days of school when I and my bro would wolf down novels and books by the dozen. Lunch and dinner lost meaning as the only thing that held our attention were those novels :p I can still vividly remember my mom literally shouting at us for not eating food and spending all night reading books. Right now I hate myself for not having eaten all the home food I ever could, but thats a different story altogether.
This fascination for novels and books further manifested itself when I started writing down lines from books in a little green book dad got me. I still have that book to this day and every now and then it provides the same joy when I pick it up and read those fading lines. More often that not I find that despite some of it fading I still remember if off the top of my head. There are lines that Ill never ever forget, some from PG Wodehouse, that master of humour, others from varied sources like Alistair McLean and others. As Jeeves would say, shall I mix you another of these lines? It seems to have given uniform satisfaction.
The final move to writing on my own was only natural. I had the luck of having dad around who himself used to love languages and english in particular. Listening and laughing while he regaled us with stories from old and the play with words are one of my earliest memories.
Another of those memories is spending time with nag talking about the different wonderful writings from books, humour and philosophy alike. Nag once said that I should write humour during our innumerable discussions and to be frank I have never tried it. It scares me because its perhaps the most difficult form of writing. The day is not far off though when I'll finally take that plunge. One of these days Im going to get him to agree to post one of his poems or writings on the blog.
When I first took up blogging it seemed rather different from what I have ever done before and this difference is what got me going in the first place. Slowly but surely, it became what every other form of writing was for me, therapeutic. Writing has always been a therapeutic exercise, more so in these times of a packed life when I cant even remember which and when was the last book I read. Blogging in many ways has been easier than conventional writing because of many reasons. The informality of it all allows you to switch between languages and most importantly the usage of emoticons means that you dont rely only on the language to convey the emotion and tone of the written piece.
Its now been fifty posts in 120 days. Will this blog live to see another post some months down the line celebrating a century? I for one certainly hope so. Thanks to everyone who read this and take the time to comment below. Its one of the things that keeps me going.
I am done with my semester just sending in my last project. Today is the last day of school and as usual mechies have it last. The same empty feeling that hits you after exams has hit once again. Well Im going to sign off here. It feels good to know that I can still write without having to resort to emoticons. :p Till the next post over and out folks.....
