Change
I was just reading some of my old writings on a variety of topics and was wondering whatever happened to that kid who wrote that. Somehow those writings seemed that much more genuine and devoid of pretense. The operative word in that sentence is "seemed". There was more passion, more force and more conviction in those writings. That got me thinking as to whether the motivations, the desires, the drive are more or less the same or have they changed. Its then that it struck me. It HAS changed. It perhaps had to like everything else. Infact I have a different spin to the whole situation.
When I was young you have a single primary outlook at life. As you grow, visit different places, meet different people you tend to take away something from each of that experience. It adds to your personality, rather than take away from it. Whether it enriches you or not is a different question altogether. What results is that you end up with an outlook that is as varied as it is different from how it used to be.
However, I still firmly believe that its all for the good. Change is inevitable. The key is to embrace it and well there are still times when glimpses of that kid still resurface. Its all good. Reminded me of some of Richard Bachs writings.
The simplest questions are the most profound. Where were you born? Where is your home? Where are you going? What are you doing? Think about these once in a while and watch your answers change. You don't want a million answers as much as you want a few forever questions. The questions are diamonds you hold in the light. Study a lifetime and you see different colors from the same jewel.
