What is progress anyway?

The last week has been satisfying for many reasons. Have been working full time and the work is something that I like as well. It pays that the people I work under are absolutely great. The people I end up helping out are also great which makes it all the more worthwhile ;)

The only downside to it all is that the schedule right now is more packed than it was during the semester. It also robs me of time for my most favoured activities. ;) Atleast I get to still catch up during the weekends which isnt too bad when that is all you have to make do with. ;) I am more convinced than ever that it does brighten up my day more than anything and this time its not without conviction and not without proof.

I spend about 8 hours of the day at work and then a few more hours at a very messy lab trying to get moving on my thesis. One good thing I have noticed is that Im beginning to approach a certain degree of comfort in engineering which is always good. There are other things that need to be learned as well in the meantime on a different note over the course of "discussions". Who said learning couldnt be fun and enjoyable? I wouldnt mind a lifetime of learning if this is how it would be:)

As I realised while speaking with sandy the number of activities that we seem to be trying to handle right now sometimes can be overwhelming. It all seems worthwhile though and more importantly there seems to be a drive that was missing the last semester. It is always rewarding to observe oneself and to be aware of the changes that keep occuring. There have been paradigm shifts and it is even more evident with every passing day. If you reading this bro, you know what I am talking about. As Socrates very succintly puts it "Know thyself". Its a different matter that sometimes some other people are able to know you better than you thought was possible. :)

Its been fascinating to watch the Indian team the last few years. Its not long ago that the Business Standard ran an article on how CEO's would do well to look at the Ganguly style of leadership. Its been an amazing turnaround to look at how two of the Big Three, Ganguly and Sachin are today struggling to reinvent themselves. I think more than anything else this team suffers from not knowing their roles which was not the case a few years ago. When the Ganguly-Sachin opening partnership was broken to make way for Sehwag and to make sure that a senior batsman came down the order other than Dravid it might have paid short term dividends but in the long run it sort of has disturbed the rhythm of both players. Ganguly today needs a stint at his favourite position, that of opening the innings to get back to the swashbuckling ways of old, complete with the shots that clear the straight boundaries and the fierce cuts over point and cover. Sachin on the other hand cant seem to make up his mind over going back to the free flowing ways of old, which was seen as recent as the last World Cup.

The Big Three dont have many years left to go and when this generation of cricketers retire cricket will be quite poorer. Its not just the Indian trio but other names such as Lara, Warne and Muralitharan who will be missing some years down the line.
